The Saginaw Youth Choir (SYC) was founded in 2018 under its parent organization the Saginaw Choral Society.
The SYC provides a performance-based youth choir opportunity that teaches music literacy with an emphasis on character development.
The SYC opens its doors to young singers ages 8-16 who want to meet, connect, and share with others from within and outside their own communities. The choir is made up of members from public, private, and home-based schools from all communities in Saginaw and the surrounding Great Lakes Bay Region.
The SYC provides a safe environment for children to unite our diverse communities through choral music, while individually fostering positive life-long character development.

In addition to teaching, Emerald teaches private piano and voice to young students in the area. Though Emerald has been involved in many projects and organizations in her lifetime she is the most proud of her involvement with the SYC. Emerald’s favorite aspect of the SYC is being able to watch students who begin as strangers grow to become close friends through music. It holds a very special place in her heart.
